Tourism in Melbourne Australia

Melbourne Australia is one of the most popular tourism and holiday destinations for both Australian tourists and international travellers. In preparation for any Melbourne tourism experience it is worth while learning a little about this wonderful city before your arrival. Located in the south eastern corner of mainland Australia, Melbourne is the second most populous city in Australia after Sydney and has around 4 million residents. The capital city of Victoria, residents of Melbourne are known as “Melburnians”.

Built alongside the Yarra River, which has its origins high in the Yarra Ranges and extends through the city before flowing out into protective Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne is one of the most significant cities for culture, sport and business. A Guide To Melbourne Accommodation in 2010

Melbourne is a great place to go on vacation or business. Your trip, however, will be infinitely improved by a quality Melbourne accommodation 2010 that fits your price range and your style. You can get any of the major hotel chains, naturally, but an often cheaper and always cooler option is to pick a native Australian hotel or apartment.

It is good for large families especially.

Eastern Sward Golf Club

Melbourne Golf Courses

The Eastern Sward Golf Club is a 9 hole, Par 67, 4911 metre course which was incorporated in October 1990as part of the Social Club of the Eastern Treatment Plant belonging to the Melbourne Water Corporation which at that time collected all green fees and maintained the golf course. In 1995 the Golf Club broke away from the umbrella of the Social Club and leased the golf course from Melbourne Water. It is a spacious flat course elevated 3-4 metres above sea level, generously covered with trees and shrubs and also three small lakes to add to the country atmosphere of the area. The small greens are lightly bunkered but are true and consistent throughout the seasons. An abundance of birdlife adds to the quietness and serenity of the surroundings interrupted only ocassionally by small recreational aircraft flying overhead.

St Kilda

In recent years St Kilda has emerged as one of Melbourne’s trendiest suburbs and is located only 6 km from the Melbourne CBD with good public transport via bus and tram. The suburb of St Kilda was named after the schooner ‘Lady of St Kilda’ which moored in the waters off the now famous St Kilda beach in 1841 by Lieutenant James Lawrence, one of the regions first settlers. During theses early times a number of luxurious mansions were constructed by wealthy Melburnians along the beachfronts with the hills of St Kilda in the background. Following the end of WWII St Kilda became known as Melbourne’s red-light district and for many was a place to be avoided. Attracted by the beach and affordable accommodation St Kilda adopted a relaxed bohemian atmosphere musicians, artists, punks and other subcultures soon saw St Kilda evolving once again. In recent years many of the less desirable groups have been pushed out of St Kilda as residential property and accommodation prices have soared. Trendy cafes, markets, clubs and restaurants are now the norm in St Kilda and the area has become one of Melbourne’s most popular tourist attractions.
