Located on the Yarra River in Melbourne, it is also a part of the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, popularly called the MCEC. Most transportation in the Melbourne area is close to the event centre. The centre has long been a host of seminars, conferences, conventions and galas.

The plenary is also moveable, with walls that can be divided to form three other theaters. Inside the exhibition centre is a 493 seat auditorium, and it is the only event venue that has been awarded Green Globe accreditations as well as WasteWise awards. The centre was commended for its design in sustainability and features displacement ventilation and glass walls, using less energy and allowing more light to flow in.

A black wastewater treatment plant recycles wastewater and energy efficient lighting is featured throughout the centre. Water efficient fixtures that use chemical systems are also installed, and fresh air is circulated by carbon dioxide monitoring. Paints and carpets are low in VOC's, volatile organic compounds. This helps air quality.

A full on catering kitchen is also provided for guests planning an event. 1,500 guests fit into the banquet room, which can also be separated into two rooms. Produce is bought strictly through local farmers and only the best ingredients used in meal planning. Wines are bought from Victorian vineyards and small boutiques.
