Melbourne, in the Australian state of Victoria, is a very popular holiday destination with both Australian and overseas visitors. Melbourne, population about four millions, is the state capital of Victoria, and the second largest city in Australia. Melbourne's centre is on the Yarra River, which runs into Port Philip Bay. The Australian film/TV industries were both founded in the state of Victoria, and Melbourne's Federation Square now hosts the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). This state-of-the-art facility is designed to showcase all types of screen content, ranging from silent films to video games. Exhibits are both from Australia, and from other countries. The large collection at ACMI includes film posters and promotional shots, and entry to the building is free. Melbourne is also noted for hosting sporting events, including events with world class entry fields. The hard court tennis tournament, the Australian Open, which is one of four Grand Slam events in the annual tennis calendar, is held every January at Melbourne Park. Melbourne also hosts the world famous Melbourne Cup horse race (November, at Flemington Racecourse) and the Australian Grand Prix, as well a one day and Test cricket at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Melbourne International Airport is at Tullamarine. The Australian carriers, Qantas and Virgin Blue, use this as an international hub. Domestic flights to other Australian state capitals are also scheduled from here.

Another hotel which is very convenient for the airport is the Hilton Melbourne International Airport Hotel. This connects directly the airport via a covered walkway. The Hilton is twenty minutes from the city centre.
